    • Important GPS Info
There are several possible routes from every direction, so you can choose between scenic back roads, midway historic points of interest, or just getting here and getting on with the fun. The main thing to remember is that our rugged location can make GPS and smartphone maps less reliable than you might be accustomed to and cell service is limited, so you'll want to do some pre-road-trip planning and trust those turn-by-turn directions.

      Airport Info
The Pittsburgh International Airport is located in Pittsburgh, PA and is the closest international airport to Snowshoe Mountain. It's a short 4-hour drive from the airport to the top of the mountain.

      Cell Service Info
Cell phone service throughout the region is limited. Snowshoe is located inside the "National Radio Quiet Zone," a designation created to minimize interference with our neighbors at the Green Bank Observatory, home of the world's largest steerable radio telescope, used by researchers from across the glob to study the depths of outer space. To accommodate this marvel of modern science, cell towers in Pocahontas County are minimal. While traveling to Snowshoe you should expect to lose cell service at least an hour prior to arrival. Please keep in mind, this could affect your GPS system as well.

For AT&T users, service returns when you enter Snowshoe's mountaintop Village. Verizon Wireless users will also have services in some spots on top of the mountain. High-speed wireless internet access is also available in the Village and throughout most lodging complexes.

    • Race with the ProsThis is your opportunity to see if you can keep up with the big dogs. The UCI is offering open Men's and Women's Cross Country Marathon races at the Marathon of Snowshoe, starting only minutes after the pros.
The racecourse will span 100km (60+ miles) through some of the most remote terrain in the state, featuring a selection of West Virginia’s most storied singletrack as well as several brand-new sections of trail connecting the Mower Basin trail system to Snowshoe.
Needless to say, this race will provide the ultimate test of skill, mental and physical strength, and endurance.
Racers will start at the Snowshoe Village and head towards the Cheat Ridge Trail where they will then descend to Shavers Lake before climbing back up the Snowshoe Basin and heading into the dark, loamy section of Spruce Forest known locally as “The Fingers”. From there, the course will take competitors through the Silver Creek area via some of Snowshoe’s signature XC trails like Beaver Dam and Enchanted Forest, before descending again down the new and improved “Pole Axe” trail towards the abandoned logging town of Spruce. Here the course shifts largely onto brand new singletrack, aptly named “Marathon”, following the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River through the Monongahela National Forest all the way to the Mower Tract, a former strip mining site that has undergone massive restoration efforts in recent years courtesy of the Nature Conservancy and the National Forest Service. At Mower, racers will find incredibly scenic vistas in addition to some long climbs between fun, flowy singletrack including yet another brand new section of trail. After that, racers will turn south back towards Snowshoe, skirting Bald Knob before winding their way back to the Snowshoe Village and the finish line.
Regardless of the results, just finishing this epic ride will be worthy of some serious bragging rights.
