Cross Country Skiing |
Cross country skiers will be delighted when the Snowshoe Backcountry and Pocahontas County Highlands receive abundant natural snowfall. Nordic skiers, you can choose to take on the convenient Cheat Mountain Ridge Trail which will lead you past the Sunrise Backcountry Hut and Cheat Mountain Fire tower (offering incredible views of the surrounding mountains) or a short drive south on Rt. 219 will lead you to the spectacular Highlands Scenic Highway.
The HSH is closed to vehicle traffic during the winter months and provides perfect conditions for Nordic skiing, not to mention breathtaking views of Pocahontas County. Rental equipment is available in the area, call 304-572-5477 for details.
Cross country skiing is available seven days a week, based on natural snowfall.
