It's a Powder Day at Snowshoe Mountain! Snowshoe continues to have the most open terrain in the region, with 7 trails and 2 lifts open and operating today. More natural snow fell throughout the day Tuesday and continued overnight. As of 6:30am the snow continues to fall on the resort. Forecasts predict more snow into the night Wednesday with another 6" possible. The current storm has already dropped 13"! To date Snowshoe has received 23" of natural snow and skiers and riders are enjoying beautiful powder days in early Decemeber! In addition to the natural snow, Snowshoe's expert snowmaking team continues to pile-on the machine-made snow. Guns have been running consistently for more than 24 hours, and with so much white stuff accumulating on the slopes, more than 11 trails are expected to be open for this weekend. The conditions this week allowed the mountain to open its new Wonder Carpet lift and improved teaching area adjacent to Skidder Slope. This area will help improve Snowshoe's already top-ranked Ski and Snowboard School. New terrain is also being introduced in the South Mountain area this weekend. Gov. Manchin will be onhand Friday morning to cut the ribbon on Snowshoe's 3 new slopes adjacent to the Widowmaker Slope, skier's right of the year-old Soaring Eagle Express. Snowmaking is expected to begin in that area shortly, and the trails should be open for skiing and riding by Christmans. This weekend will certainly be a lively one at Snowshoe. In addition to the great conditions and amount of terrain, the mountain is also hosting its annual Subaru Demo Days on Saturday and Sunday. The industry leaders will be onhand with the latest and greatest in ski and snowboard equipment. Take advantage of the free demos available and stop by Skidder Slope this weekend. After you've tried out that amazing new board or set of skis, get ready to be blown away by the King of the Mountain competition. Skiers and riders of all ages will battle for cash, prizes and of course bragging rights in the Slopestyle, Village Rail and Big Air competitions. If you think you've got what it takes, sign up on Saturday to fight for the title of King (or Queen) of the Mountain.
