Happy Fall Everyone!

I hope everyone had a good summer and is ready for another exciting winter at Snowshoe. We've had a fairly cold October on top of the mountain, and the last few nights temps have been below freezing with heavy frost lingering into the mid-morning hours. That means we're just days, yes DAYS away from beginning snowmaking operations. And word from some of meteorologist buddies is that there could be some natural flakes this weekend. It looks like the cold weather is here to stay, and we-re now less than 40 days away from OPENING DAY of the 2008-2009 season.

I know I caught you attention with the promise of snowmaking, so let me elaborate. We just installed 15 new tower-mountain Techno Alpine fully automated snow guns across Skidder Slope and over by the top of Ballhooter lift. These guns mean business, and the best thing about them is that they house on-board air compressors. That means we can fire these guns up individually and do some serious early snowmaking across some of our most vital areas. With what looks like a long cold spell moving in next week, our snowmakers have plans right now to turn those guns on sometime Monday night or very early Tuesday morning.

In other news, our mid-station on the Western Express lift is nearly complete. If this is the first time you're hearing about it, the mid-station was rebuilt in order to give us the option of opening Upper Cupp Run and Upper Shay's Revenge earlier in the season. As many of you know, making snow along the entire lengths of these two slopes is quite the endeavor. We haven't had much early-season help from Mother Nature the past few years, so we decided to reopen the mid-station. Now we can dedicate our snowmaking to the tops of the slopes, and have 26 acres of black diamond skiing open before the Holidays, or even earlier. Because Western Express is a high-speed detachable, the mid-station will close once we get the bottom of one or both of the slopes open. So the lift won't have to slow down at all, and you'll be able to make just as many turns down the 1.5 miles and 1,500 vertical feet of our famed Western Territory. We've got some great pictures of the new station up in our photo gallery. There are even more updates available in the "What's New" video.

This winter marks Snowshoe's 35th Season, so we've got lots of great events and promotions planned. Check out the events section of the homepage, and be sure to check back frequently for additions and updates. Also, check out our new Smart Ski Escapes section under the "Deals and Packages" tab. We know many folks are facing increasing financial pressure this winter, and Snowshoe wants to make sure you don't have to sacrifice your on-the-snow fun. So we've built several smart, safe and economical packages for you. These packages include lenient cancellation policies, so if things change, you can cancel your reservation, for any reason, FREE of charge! Making a reservation anywhere else is just risky.

And of course, Snowshoe will once again work hard this season to make sure we provide the region's BEST conditions. Our snowmakers and groomers work tirelessly to ensure you'll have the best ski or snowboard experience possible. Their work continues to pay off, year after year; did you know that last January 14th, Snowshoe had more slopes open than all the North Carolina resorts COMBINED! Our dedication is to you, our guests, and we hope you'll join us this winter for another season of memory making.
