Hi All! Sorry it has been so long since my last update. Things have been busy on the mountain and I've been trying to use my free time to enjoy the snow!
I know what the first thing is most of you will be asking in your head...and YES! we still have plenty of snow on the mountain. I know the last few weeks haven't provided much skier-friendly weather, but our amazing early season snow totals, and our expert snowmaking team, has allowed Snowshoe to still be in great shape. Over the last week or two, we have had on and off snowmaking temperatures, and we've made snow at every opportunity. Our snowmaking team is absolutely amazing, and along with our groomers, has kept us many reportable bare spots on open terrain. Yeah, stuff is a little thin in places, and it's not as pretty as it was in late November, but it is definitely still skiable and certainly still enjoyable!
If you need further proof, you can ask one of the thousands of folks who spent their Christmas with us. Going a little off track here, I think our Holiday guests are such a testament to how special Snowshoe is. Christmas is a time for family, friends and memory-making, and each year thousands of folks spend their Holidays with us. Seeing everyone enjoying the Season and all that Snowshoe has to offer makes it so much easier for those like me, who spend the Holidays working and away from family. While this will never be an ideal situation, I absolutely LOVE my job, and sharing this time with great friends and all our amazing guests makes it worth it. So thank you to all of you who chose Snowshoe as your Holiday destination; it really does mean something to those of us who make our living hear.
Back to the snow. I rode for most of the day Saturday (12/27) and while it looked like a great March day-bluebird ski, temps soaring into the high 50s-it was awesome. There was some slush here and there, and yeah, some mashed potato conditions developed as the day went on, but I had a blast. And remember, when you see staff out there on their days off, or skiing and riding when they don't have to, that means conditions are decent if not great. When you live and work at a resort, you get to be picky. And while many of us were happy just to see a sunny day, the conditions really were worth making as many runs as possible. And here's a little secret for some of you who maybe haven't visited us regularly... when things start to get crowded, HEAD TO SILVER CREEK!!!
The Creek offers 18 slopes, two terrain park areas, its own ski school facilities, a great bar and food court, and of course the tubing hill and the mountain's only night skiing. The trails are a little wider, and yeah, a tad bit shorter, but you can always beat the crowds. In addition to more time on snow, fewer crowds often times mean better snow, especially on warmer days or when the snow is starting to get a little thin in spots. While we love all of you guys coming out and enjoying the snow, skiers and riders are the snow's worst enemies. Less ware and tare means more snow to be had! So do what the "locals" do. Skip the long lines at Ballhooter lift and head to the Creek, or at least spread out to the Northern Track (Powderridge) or South Mountain (Soaring Eagle) areas... you won't regret it!
Happy New Year Everyone! My resolution is to keep you updated more often!
Cheers and THINK SNOW!
