Snow News is Good News.

We're starting another week with plenty of the white stuff flying atop Snowshoe! Last weeks warmer weather quickly gave way to more seasonable temperatures over the weekend and we were able to turn on the snow guns across the mountain on Saturday. Sunday provided great snowmaking conditions throughout the day and the guns remained on into Monday morning. It looks like we'll be able to continue making snow Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, followed by a few days off. Long-term forecasts right now are showing freezing temperatures returning on Saturday and continuing through mid-week next week.

If we can continue to get lots of consistently cold and dry temperatures we should be in great shape for Opening Day on the 26th. There is the possibility of some natural snow falling next weekend, and that would only make things better. Unfortunately most of the 9.5" we received at the end of October has melted away. Where we were able to blow snow during that time we did maintain some piles, and we'll continue to add to those as much as possible in the next few weeks. We are updating the snow report daily with forecasts and snowmaking action, so be sure to check that out. Our amazing Snowshoe TV producer, Ed Schneider, has also been doing a great job capturing all the action on video, so please check out the video section of this site as well. Also look out for Snowshoe updates on the Weather Channels and many regional news stations. We're always sending them video and information so you can stay up-to-date on what's happening on top of the mountain.

I'd like to give a quick shout out to Skisoutheast.com. If you haven't visited the site and you ski/snowboard in WV, VA, MD or NC, you have to check these guys out. Mike Doble runs the show over there and does a fantastic job of keeping snow enthusiasts up-to-date on everything happening at regional resorts. From pictures to trail reports, this site is one-stop shopping for area skiers. They also have a really active message board community, so if you're looking to make some new on-the-snow friends, be sure to check that out. And... we hold a really great event with these guys ever year, which offers some really cool incentives and is just an amazing time for all. Visit skisoutheast.com to learn more.

If you tend to stay further north and ski in the WV, VA, MD and PA areas, dcski.com is another great resource for up-to-date information and what's happening in the industry. These guys also support a great forum community, so check them out as well.

We all know the high costs and hassles of airline travel, so this year we encourage you to skip the headaches and head to Snowshoe for your winter snow escape. Baggage fees alone can cost a family of four upward of $1000, while at Snowshoe we take you right from your car to your vacation. Last week we introduced three Smart Ski Escape packages that offer amazing deals and great extras like a relaxed 72-hour cancellation policy and free lift tickets for juniors. Early season indicators all point to a wonderful season ahead, so be sure to join us and celebrate 35 Years of Snowshoe Mountain. We're just a little more than 2 weeks away from hitting the snow, so dust off your equipment, wax your boards and make sure your gear is ready to go. Most importantly, practice those snow dances and make sure you continue to THINK SNOW!
