Well, it hasn't felt much like winter these past few days, but that should change in the next 12 hours or so. Temperatures are expected to drop throughout the day today, and snowmaking may be able to restart overnight tonight, as lows should dip below 30 degrees. That's welcome news after several says of temperatures surpassing 50 degrees. While spring-like conditions in January have been fun, it's better for this weather not to become a lasting trend.

After we cool down today, the next two days get back to more "normal" temperatures for the season, and there's even some natural snow possible for Thursday, Friday and again on Sunday. While snow is always welcome, we are in much better shape on the slopes that any of the surrounding resorts. With the opening of Cupp Run and Camp 99 on Saturday, we're now skiing and riding on 45 trails—that's more than twice as many trails as any other resort south of Pennsylvania has open! It's always nice to have 75% of the mountain open, but we look forward to the return of cold weather and continuing to expand our terrain.

Today should be another day of mashed potato-fun out there. While you might run across a thin patch or two, our snow has held up remarkably well give the warm temps and drizzle we've seen so often. Paul Maraschiello from skibumnews.com was up this weekend and in an email yesterday he said, "[I] Had a GREAT time and made more runs on Sunday than I have ever made at Snowshoe…the snow was in great shape!"

The groomers have had a couple days off at Snowshoe, but so far people seem to be enjoying the bumps. I haven't been out since Saturday, but the office emptied yesterday afternoon and everyone came back with smiles on their faces and told me I totally missed out, so that's a good thing (we can admittedly be a little picky around here).  I think today should be the last day without grooming, and hopefully with some snowmaking tonight, we'll have a nice fresh layer of corduroy for tomorrow morning.

What this milder weather has been perfect for is our adventure activities. The tubing hill was a hot spot this weekend, and snowcat and snowmobile tours have been full all season. The tours are an awesome experience, and a great way to see a whole new side of Snowshoe. If you're coming up later this season, I strongly recommend booking a tour.

If you haven't booked your trip yet, we've got some great deals to check out on Snowshoemtn.com. Now through February 4, when you book a three or more night package from March 13-24, you'll receive an iPod shuffle—spring skiing has never sounded this good! March, our "fifth season", is going to awesome this year, as long term forecasts predict a cold (and snowy?!?) February, which mean conditions will be perfect for our line up of new events. The Homegrown Music Festival (March 14&15) will feature the best in regional sounds, including country, bluegrass and Southern rock. For those with a sweet tooth, the Shades of Cream Chocolate and Champagne Weekend  (Easter Weekend, March 21-23) is going to be an event to remember.
