We've turned the calendars over to November, we've heard the first snow guns come to life and Mother Nature has already delivered 9.5" of snow. With less than a month to go before Opening Day, life is good on the mountain. Most of the natural snow has melted from sidewalks and grassy areas, but the early snowmaking gave us a great head start on building a sustainable base across the top of the mountain. It'll be hard to contain the snow-itch these next 23 days, but I know all of you anticipate Opening Day just as much as we do here on the mountain.
This week we'll see seasonal temperatures hovering around 50 degrees, but by the end of the week overnight temperatures will dip below freezing and you can be sure our entire arsenal of snow guns will be working whenever and wherever possible. While it's always a gamble to trust long'term forecasts, right now the Weather Channel is predicting more natural snow Sunday'Tuesday. Many of you seasoned Snowshoe veterans know that the National Weather Service is actually the source of choice for Snowshoe forecasts, however their website seems to be down this morning, so we're calling an audible and seeing what the Weather Channel can deliver. (Update: NWS is back in action and is also predicting snow showers for Sunday. Their forecast only goes out 7 days, so we'll see what early next week holds in the coming days.)
If we can get some more consistently cold temperatures, as well as some more natural stuff from Mother Nature, November 26 could bring some of the best early season conditions in recent memory. This season marks Snowshoe's 35th Winter, so let's hope Mother Nature helps us celebrate by providing great snowmaking conditions and plenty of natural snow all season long. We're excited to reach this milestone in our history, and with great promotions and events, this will undoubtedly be one of our best seasons yet.
