  • When the first logging companies ventured onto Cheat Mountain, the Northern Tract was one of the first areas to be harvested because of its gentle slope and convenient access to the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River. Today, the Northern Tract is host to some of Snowshoe's best 'learning' terrain. Whether you're just getting into the sport of skiing or snowboarding or looking to fine-tune your turns, head to the Northern Tract and enjoy long, wide slopes.

Plus, for the 2007-2008 season, an automated snowmaking system has been added to the Northern Tract.  This will allow our snowmaking team to make more snow at times when the temperatures for making snow are marginal.  This means more snow, sooner in the season... and that's good!

  • In the early 1900's, when Cheat Mountain was being harvested of its abundant virgin Spruce, the area that is currently home to Cupp Run was known as the Western Territory. Few loggers would venture into this region because of the steep, rough, and rugged terrain. Today, the Western Territory, with 1500' of steeps to conquer, is where adrenaline junkies head to get their fix. With the legendary Cupp Run, designed by Olympian Jean-Claude Kily, and Shay's Revenge, with steeps of 52% and "mountain size" moguls, even the most hardcore skiers and snowboarders have to take notice of these two beasts. Are you up to the challenge?
