1.  What am I supposed to wear to work?

2.  What should I wear on the Mountain? Is it cheaper to buy Winter Clothing in my home country, or at the Snowshoe Mountain stores with my Employee discount?

The Snow Gear page lists outerwear and layering pieces that significantly assist in keeping you warm, and what you should look for when purchasing such an item. Approximate prices have been included so that you can compare prices here with prices in your home country.

3.  Can you tell me what I will be doing in my job? How much will I be paid?

4.  How do I access my money while on the Mountain? What do I do with my pay-cheque?

There are three ATM's at Snowshoe Mountain that accept International cards endorsed by Cirrus, Star, Visa and Mastercard. There is no place at Snowshoe to cash Traveler's Cheques.  There is a bank at the bottom of Snowshoe Mountain. The bank will be at your orientation to help you set up an account for the duration of your stay. Your pay-cheque can then be directly deposited into your account. The bank will provide you with a Debit card that you can use to withdraw funds. If your bank at home has a branch within the USA, you can elect to have your pay-cheque directly deposited into that account. Credit and debit card facilities are present across the Mountain. 

5.  How do I access the Internet?

There is free Internet access located in the foyer of the Human Resources office. The Internet access is available during office open hours. The Starbucks Coffee Shop in the Village has wireless Internet access so if you are bringing your laptop, you can use it there. 

6.  As an International Employee, what am I supposed to do on my first day at Snowshoe? 

On your first day at Snowshoe, you will attend an Orientation class that will familiarize you with the Mountain and explain the location of your job. On that day, the bank will visit you so you can set up an account and arrange to have your pay-cheque directly deposited. You will also be guided through completing all necessary paperwork. Please ensure that you bring your passport, I-9 Slip and DS219 form (if you are on a J-1 Visa).

7.  How do I receive mail at Snowshoe?

There is a post office at Snowshoe and you can open a post office box for the season. You will be required to show photo ID, pay for your box and place a deposit on a key in order to do this. You can share the box with up to two others. Your mail can then be sent to the Post Office Box you are designated.

8. How do I receive phone calls? Where can I buy phone cards?

There are telephones in each Employee Housing unit. On your telephone, there will be your phone number. Your phone number will take the following form: 304-572-XXXX (the XXXX represents the extension number, different for each telephone on the Mountain). You can receive calls to your phone- the country code for America is 1. To make a call outside the local area, you will require a phone card. Phone cards are available for sale at Wildcat Provisions (convenience store located on the Mountain). Phone cards can also be purchased on-line through websites such as: www.nobelcom.com. Websites such as these have calling cards for all around the world. Phone cards are also sold at grocery stores and pharmacies through out the USA.

9.  How often do we go on grocery shopping trips? 

Busses organized by Human Resources run once every 2 weeks and take Employees down to Elkins to allow for grocery shopping starting December. The number of spaces available on these bus trips is limited to 47. There is a small payment required to travel on one of these bus trips. On the Mountain, there is a convenience store called Wildcat Provisions and a smaller convenience store called Wildcat Annex. At the base of the Mountain, there is a Market that is larger than the convenience stores, but smaller than a grocery store.

10.  How do you get to/ from Snowshoe?

11. Is there a gym/ workout facility at Snowshoe for employees to use?

The Whistlepunk Spa at Snowshoe has a workout facility. This is not owned by Snowshoe Mountain. Employees receive a discounted rate at this facility.

12. Is there a beautician/ hairdresser at Snowshoe?

The Whistlepunk Spa at Snowshoe offers a full menu of beauty services.

13. Is there a pool for Employees to use?

Split Rock Pools is free for employees in good standing. This is not a lap pool. The facility contains an indoor and outdoor pool (heated), 2 slides, one geyser, 2 hot tubs and a sauna.

15. Where is the closest doctor located?

There is a small clinic located on Snowshoe Mountain. Employees pay a nominal fee to be assessed by a Physician's Assistant. Please note that this service is in high demand by Guests and Employees alike, and emergency cases take priority. This service deals with first response care of serious cases, referrals and minor ailments. At the bottom of the mountain, there is a doctor's office with a full range of services. You need to pay in full here and later claim the amount back from your Insurance provider. If there is anything more serious, you will need to be transported to Elkins to the Davis Memorial Hospital.

16. What is the time at Snowshoe?

17. How do I convert between the Metric system I use at home, to the Imperial system used in the USA?

18. How much is my Home currency worth in the USA?

19.  Does it get cold at Snowshoe?

It does get cold at Snowshoe, especially during the Winter. Being located on top of a mountain, Snowshoe is very exposed - the weather can be extreme and windy.
