Is There Cell Phone Coverage & Internet Access?

Being one of the highest elevated counties in the East and set in the middle of the Monongahela National Forest, Snowshoe offers the perfect location for unmatched outdoor wilderness activities. Snowshoe Mountain is also located in a federally regulated "Quiet Zone" administered by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (located 30 minutes south of the resort in Green Bank). In order for NRAO to conduct its valuable research, cell phone and wireless technology access points in the surrounding air space is to some degree restricted. Some frequently asked questions:

What cell phone carriers receive signals at Snowshoe Mountain?
• While most carriers receive inconsistent signal, we find ATT currently receives the best signal and widest area coverage.
• Hot spots for cell phone reception include the north base of the mountain by the Inn at Snowshoe, the village area around Starbucks, and the south area near Mountaintop Check-in.
• ATT users generally have service when they have an unrestricted view toward the wonderful landscape to the west.

Can I make a phone call the "old-fashioned" way (calling from a land line)?
• Absolutely!  Some lodging complexes allow long distance direct calls to be made (calls are subject to time/distance rates plus surcharge).  Other complexes require use of a 1-800 accessible calling card.
• Calling Cards are available for sale at Wildcat Provisions (located next to the Chapel).

How can I get online?
• Many guest lodging rooms in the Village (Allegheny Springs, Expedition Station, Rimfire, Highland House and Seneca) receive either wireless or Ethernet hi speed internet access.  The Shamrock complex also features internet access.  In addition, Silver Creek units offer ethernet and there is wireless internet in both Misty's and the Silver Creek lobby.
• If you need an Ethernet cable, one can be obtained from the front desk at Mountaintop Check in or at Allegheny Springs (a small required deposit will be refunded to you upon return of the cable).
• Starbucks and the Big Top have free Wi-Fi.
