Snowshoe Foundation Recipients


Ten projects in Pocahontas County, West Virginia will benefit from more than $18,000 in grant awards from the Snowshoe Foundation.  Altogether, the Snowshoe Foundation will hand out more than $34,000 in three counties this year, a non-profit group that operates independently of Snowshoe Mountain Resort.

The grant awards will be handed out in the coming weeks to the following projects and individuals specifically in Pocahontas County:

* High Rocks for Girls, $3,000 to enhance program funding as well as improve facilities where education, empowerment and inspiration for girls by giving them the confidence to lead active lives and work toward the long term betterment of our community;.

* Pocahontas County Board of Education, $3,000 to enhance programming.

* Pocahontas Center Auxiliary Nursing Home, $1,000 to provide Christmas gifts for residents in the Nursing Home.

*Boy Scout Troop #112, $500.00 to offset education supplies and summer camp tuition for all troops.

*Pocahontas County Free Libraries, $4,000 to enhance the Pocahontas Music Program in the Hillsboro School.

*Cass Volunteer Fire Department, $3,000 Back to School Backpacks and school supplies, Community Christmas gathering and Community Easter gathering for children.

* Humane Society of Pocahontas County, $1,000 to support spay and neuter clinics in Pocahontas County.

* Pocahontas County Historical Society Education Foundation, $500.00 to assist in restoration of McNeel Mill in Millpoint, WV.

* Pear S. Buck Birthplace Foundation, $500.00 to assist with immediate repairs to stop water damage.

* CASA of Eleventh Judicial Circuit, WV Inc., $2,000 to assist with volunteer recruiting and training.
 
In addition, the following ten projects were funded in Randolph County:

 *The Old Brick Playhouse, $1,500 to support the Act up Literally Program.

* Homestead Elementary School, $500.00 to enhance the Polar Pals Program.

* Valley Head Volunteer Fire Department, $600.00 to provide Smoke Detectors to children and their family homes.

* George Ward Elementary School, $500.00 to enhance the playground and walking track.

* Elkins/Randolph YMCA,  $1000.00 to enhance the Drop in Youth Center.

* Randolph County Community Arts Council and Community Arts Center, $1500.00 for the Randolph County student Art Exhibit and Musical Showcase.

* Tygart Valley high School Band Auxiliary, $500.00 to assist in uniforming the Tygart Valley High School band.

* Elkins Middle School Parent Teacher Student Organization,  $770.00 to match a Sunshine Lady grant for lockers, desks and chairs for all.

* Tygart Valley Homestead Association, $500.00 in support of purchasing a Kindergarten learning rug and Driving brochure for their area.

* Valley Head Improvement Fund, $1000.00 to improve the facility of the Valley Head School.

* Higher Education Scholarships in the tri county area included a total of $6,600.00 to the following students:  Angela McMillion, Angela Foe, Anthony Pritt, Marlena and Cody Chestnut, Joseph Gooding and Krista Hill.

There were no applications received from the county of Webster.
 
“Choosing this list of grant recipients was difficult for the board members of the Snowshoe Foundation,” says Snowshoe Foundation Executive Director Coby Brown.  “There is a definite need in the community and we look forward to doing more through the Foundation in the years to come.”
