At the time of this writing in April, ski season had wound down some weeks ago; we've seen bright, sunny days with temperatures in the seventies; the Crocuses have already emerged and faded; the Daffodils are in full bloom; and today, under a bright sun and blue skies, there is a foot of fresh snow on the ground. Mother Nature is the real story behind ski season this year. We saw it coming in the behavior of the plants and animals; it was going to be a winter of more snow and consistently cold weather than we had seen in years; and it was. So much so, in fact, that the resort opened early, a week before Thanksgiving, and gave our owners and guests lots of great skiing and boarding straight through until late March, when spring finally took hold. While it's too soon to stop counting, we've had nearly 200 inches of snow this season, above the average 180, and well above recent years.
